Nina Maria Wanjiku, the former wife of Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama, has been formally charged with forgery.
During her appearance before Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi, Wanjiku denied the allegations against her.
The court proceedings revealed that on January 28, 1998, in Nairobi County, she allegedly created a birth certificate with the intent to deceive, despite lacking lawful authority to do so. This act led to a charge of uttering a false document, which is a violation of Section 353 of the Penal Code.
Furthermore, on May 21, 1998, at the Nairobi immigration office, she was accused of knowingly and fraudulently presenting a forged birth certificate, falsely claiming it to be a legitimate document issued by the civil registrar of births in Thika.
Following the charges, Wanjiku was granted release on a cash bail of Sh 50,000.
