A businessman based in Nairobi has been formally charged with fraud, accused of unlawfully acquiring Sh 8.5 million through a deceptive scheme involving the importation of spaghetti.

Mohammed Khalif Hassan appeared in front of Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Robinson Ondieki, where he entered a plea of not guilty to the allegations against him.

The charges assert that between February 18, 2023, and May 21, 2024, Khalif solicited and received funds from Osman Mohamed Ali on multiple occasions at a location within the country that has not been disclosed.

The case has drawn attention due to the significant amount of money involved and the nature of the alleged fraudulent activity.

It was claimed that he acquired funds from Ali by deceitfully asserting that he had the capability to import spaghetti on Ali’s behalf. This allegation suggests a deliberate misrepresentation of his abilities and intentions, leading to financial gain at the expense of another party.

In response to these serious accusations, the court mandated that he either pay a cash bail of Sh700,000 or provide an alternative bond amounting to Sh3 million to facilitate his release from custody. This decision underscores the legal system’s approach to ensuring accountability while balancing the rights of the accused during the judicial process.
